Judas

It only took a count of thirty
A piece of my soul
And they settled for second best
That was a portion of the toll

Some half truths
A black lie here
or there
We don't walk by sight

A duet or pas de deux
And I the dumb or lame partner
I don't make a sound or move
Only follow their lead

I built this bed
And I have yet to rest
But some things won't be exorcised
Lungs screaming. I lay here exhausted

I was just a pawn in an injustice
No wonder I only found solace
In the shadow of branches
A debt paid in life

I don't want to live this life
There's no joy
When it rains
It floods

It's so dark
I don't even think
Shadows exist
Here
